The techniques and methods we study have been passed down from generation to generation.

Initially your training will start with a bokuto, or wooden practice sword.  During this phase of your training you will be introduced to the basics, including the different postures, the principles of sword technique, foot work and etiquette. You will also be introduced to some of the kata that will form the backbone of your training.

Once you have a certain level of competence you will start training with an iato (a sword that has been blunted) which will allow further development of your skills around drawing and cutting in a single motion and the technique behind sheathing the sword. You will also be introduced to the concepts of timing and distance.

As you advance further you will also be introduced to the use of a sharp sword and be allowed to test your cutting skills against a target (straw mat).

Visitors are welcome at any time and we invite those interested in training to visit and watch one of our training sessions.

We are available for seminars, demonstrations, community and cultural events.
